There is no way to tell you the amount of pain you'll feel when you are getting your tattoo, because everyone has a different pain threshold.

The pain is usually described as a slight burn or scratching feeling. If you are getting it on your wrist or chest, the pain will be a bit more intense. Places like the arms and legs normally aren't as painful, because there is more tissue and muscle.

Your skin is going to be pierced by a needle, which usually involves some kind of pain no matter where you get the tattoo. The overall amount of pain you experience though, all depends on your tolerance. If you have a high pain tolerance, you may feel next to nothing during the entire process.

The needles puncture your skin at variable depths and at a very fast rate. The tattoo outline will probably be the most painful, because the needles will be used to create a black line that will stand out on the tattoo. The needle will be inserted fairly deeply and carefully to ensure that it is done correctly. The shading of the tattoo isn't usually that painful, although it depends on the penetration depth and effect that you desire.

Even though some pain is to be expected, there are ways that you can minimize the pain. Below are some tips that will help you deal with the pain.

  1. Don't show up drunk or on drugs. Your blood will thin and cause more blood.
  2. Find a tattoo artist that you are comfortable with. Confidence in your artist can minimize the pain a great deal.
  3. Arrive at the tattoo studio with sheer determination. You are getting a work of art and you should expect it to take time to create.
  4. Let your tattoo artist know immediately if it becomes too painful. You can take a break or come back later. Tattoos don't need to be finished right away so you can break up your sessions.
  5. Listen to music to distract your mind.
  6. It helps if you squeeze something soft like a foam pillow or stuff animal (not one you want to behead)
  7. Your expectation and frame of mind does play a role, so going in with a positive attitude can only help.

Ok the one I know and love will inflict the most pain he can. That is how he does it. You know something his work is decent and evidently his customers come back for more. Thnaks for the tips now I'm positiveI don't need one.
